Maggy Hazelnut wrote:@ Oor -- I am on these forums because I enjoy SL Gor and these forums are ONE of the forms of communication with other players. If I want to participate in other forums I'll do that too. I'm here to learn, to post and share opinions and to communicate. I would also like to see things improve both on the forums and in SL Gor.

As far as OOC and getting to know others as friends, I wasn't talking about doing it in an unnatural way. I don't walk up to someone and start spilling my RL to them. But I'm not so afraid that I have to hide behind a role and not be friendly. And as far as saying that the main objective is to RP - well keep in mind that there's also a section here for Lifestylers whether the hardcore RPers like it or not. Some are even in the middle and do both! Not everyone is on the far extremes. It might be "pure RP" to you and some others but it's not to everyone.

I wasn't saying that those that quit SL Gor should necessarily leave the forums. I was asking WHY they stayed if they didn't play anymore for a long period of time or if they disliked the game which several have stated before. I STILL don't understand why anyone would hang around in any forum or group if they disliked what the forums were made for. Just like you, I'm allowed to have my opinions and to state them here.

I get what you are saying Maggy. I do understand that people who do not play here anymore still post - they have friends here and there is not only gor topics. There is nothing wrong with that. Many pull it off without any problems.

But there is also another group and I do roll my eyes regularly when I read some of their posts. They have to make smart ass, "funny", and often very disparaging comments on every topic that has to do with Gor - and especially with comments in the life style section. That just makes no sense to me. They add absolutely nothing to the discussion - and only make their negative comments about people's choice of how to play Gor, how to life their life and so on and so forth. This really turns off a lot of people who come here with an open mind - but who happened to see and want to play Gor a bit differently than what the norm seems to be here right now. I think they forget that there are life style sims out there and the people who play there do nothing wrong - they simply exercise their right to play the game the way they want. When they come here they often get bashed over the head right from the beginning how they do it all wrong. And I have to say - people who obviously despise gorean rp and are not playing anymore are the most vocal group when it comes to this.

So, I do get what you are saying - I have seen this behavior over a long period of time now.

Well said, Oor. You'll never get through to them, though. Maggy and Carter both seem convinced that they have all the answers. Then again, this IS the Internet. :ugeek:

...or maybe they don't have 40 hrs a week or 12 hrs a day to spend rping?
(or even 4 hrs a week....i.e., me, cos if I did have time, I'd be very active indeed. Or maybe not, i can't see myself spending so much time rping each week. But anyway, active enough.)

Treat, I dont have all the answers, thats my main purpose in following this forum.. to learn, gain insight and apply the occassional snippet of information that I find here back into my personal RP

.. but equally I find it destructive and counter productive for those who dont even contribute with their presence in gorean RP to be so vocal with their comments.

Whats their purpose ?.. they dont come into SL GOR to make it better, to be role models for others, to actually contribute their time and this HUGGGGE wealth of experience and insights they claim to have to make the place better..

No.. they sit sniping, arguing, making condescending comments, pull up some quote out of their arse and try and impose their perspective on a debate when they themselves will never ever apply that dogmatic perspective in RP.

I guess I fall into the inactive category now. I've gotten too frustrated by all of the OOC drama, nit picking, bickering, and such. I have a dramatic enough RL as it is. When I log onto SL now, its for fun. I'm not logging into SL to sit alone in a sim for 5 hours a day anymore. I'm not logging into SL to have IMs dropped on me "hey can you tour XYZ person" or "Hey can you come to the tavern" I log onto SL now to spend time with my friends, and spend time creating.

I realized that when I RP in WoW... my role is not constantly criticized or people randomly messaging me wondering why I'm standing up or worried about my avatar's AO movements. They care about the text. And thats what gets my rocks off, the text. That makes me happy so I'm RPing where I'm happy.

So, they should sit down and shut up? They have RP'd in SL Gor, several of them helped FOUND SL Gor. Whether or not they are currently active in a Gorean Sim is besides the point, wouldn't you say?

Let's see who we have: Rob Escape, Dream, Blue, Me (even though I'm back in for now), Melisande was here for a while, Grace Loudon was here for a while too. If I forget any, please forgive me. None of them has really been active in SL Gor for a while, yet all have, undeniably, paid blood, sweat and fortune to make the playground you want them to sit down and shut up about.

It's disrespectful and dishonorable.
