Traveling Slaves

Postby Sabina Takakura » Thu Feb 02, 2017 2:27 pm

I'd like to discuss this. The good, bad, and ugly both IC and OOC about traveling slaves - is it purely in keeping with in character storylines/setting? Should we consider the OOC element to this?

What are your experiences that are for or against this?

It's all good with me as long as they rp an npc owner near by. It's stupid confining one role in Gor from ever going anywhere. As long as they know how to rp the travel realistically and not just go "I was bored so I went exploring" i mean that might very well be the ooc reason but ic...that wont fly.

It would be totally unrealistic for a slave to travel alone. First, but what mean? Slaves don't have money. Plus, slave theft is not uncommon. And I see no reason for a man to keep for him, definitely, a slave who is alone, whose master is far away, especially one with whom he doesn't share a home stone. So, why would a slave owner take the risk of losing his slave?

But with a NPC owner, perfectly ok. Just, good luck to find a sim which accept slave players NPCing their owner.. Most Gor sims are so.... RP outdated....

Traveling alone, most certainly, but as you said Sasi why not NPC?

Let's say someone has both a PC owner, and a PC guard, and they play a slave character. Both the PC owner and PC guard are OOC alright with the slave character "NPC"-ing them while she travels, if neither are online. Yes, there is a possibility of theft, but that would just be more roleplay, wouldn't it?

Would this be a reasonable scenario? Or not?

On the OOC end of that, what Manon said. Isn't it a bit crappy to expect people who play slave characters to be stuck to one sim only, never to travel, or seek out RP elsewhere? What's the use of having this vast expansive world if you're literally chained to a post? Are we imposing something OOC on people that isn't fair?

Technically, when you emote a NPC owner or guard, your slave character is not travelling alone :)

I'm all in favor of NPCs, I love NPCs, they are necessary for realism. And I consider that slave players should naturally be allowed to NPC their owner and play the role they wish (pot slave, display slave, pleasure slave, etc etc)

Just, in SL Gor, good luck with finding a sim which allows a slave player to NPC a guard or owner.. Many don't even allow FW to use a NPC guard...

Your choice of will be certainly limited.. And it's lame...

I was actually going to bring this up. It's so hard to travel with an NPC owner as a slave, because 99% of people ignore the fact that your character does, in fact, have an owner.
This isn't fucking Survivor. We aren't a tribe.

If I won't put up with an in-character owner trying to control my OOC life, what makes you think I'll put up with you trying to do that?

I think it's equally plausible to say you are running an errand for your owner, assuming that your NPC owner is a resident of whatever city the sim is emulating.

Of course... this may lead to subsequent conversations like "What is their name? I don't know them and I sent a bird to group chat," etc. etc. bad IC/OOC mix ad nauseum :fryingpan:

It's perfectly plausible to say that your NPC owner is passing through town, especially if your owner is a merchant or slaver. If you're asked where he is, just say he's elsewhere in the city on business. If they don't accept that then you're in the wrong sim.

The few times I have gone playing a slave character I always bring a crowd of NPC: At least ten other slaves on the chain, a slaver and usually at least one guard too. It's kinda hilarious since my char of course hates the girls ahead of her on the chain. If people start rp me the NPC slaver might interrupt to attempt to sell my char or one of the other girls, preferably one of those more expensive ones ahead of her on the chain :P

I never encountered problems with this approach but granted it has only happened a few times. If people ignore your NPC owner or even do the stupidity that Adlai mentioned. It's definitely the wrong sim to be in then.

Traveling slaves is something of the past for me, some had good stories others are bad. Once we had a visitor, she was an escaped slave from Turia she told. Well nice. She changed that story when she was brought to the Clan of Torturers to get the route to that city out of her.

Nowadays, it are mostly free women which travel to Omen Valley, if they come to visit the haruspex for an omen, with an NP escort, thats a good rp reason. However some just wanna get laid by an outrider.
She smiled. "I have grown fond of the smell of bosk," said she. Kamchak smiled. He held his hand to the girl. "Ride with me, Aphris of Turia," said Kamchak of the Tuchuks. Image
