The defendant is represented by Janette, who trains 90% of BTB's Magistrates and Advocates through her Gorean Campus courses. And there is Sherman, who's highly regarded in BTB's scribal circles. The occasional guidance is provided by Landa's High Magistrate, Isabella.

[13:11] Sherman Easterwood: Before we get to the Case of Ambassador Grun of the City of ianda on the Isle of Landa vs Lady Teal of the City of ianda on the Isle of Landa I want to make a ruling and finding on another outstanding case. Shuffles through the scrolls grabs one and continues...

[13:11] Sherman Easterwood: I have reviewed the evidence along with reading a Amicus Curiae brief filed by the High Magistrate of ianda in the Case of City of ianda on the Isle of Landa vs Paul Warrior of the City of ianda on the isle of Landa. Paul was charged with murder of Lady Amy of the city of ianda on the Isle of Landa. The death of a citizen of ianda either Free Man or Free Woman is something that is never taken lightly. While the court believes the Warrior could have handled the situation in a manner that would not have caused the death of the Lady, the court also realizes that both men and women put themselves at risk when directly confronting

[13:12] Sherman Easterwood: Warriors of ianda when they are doing their duty of protecting the city. I find in this case the following:

[13:12] Sherman Easterwood: 1. The Warrior actions were extreme and the amount of force used was to great for the situation. A female can easily be subdued without the use of weapons. Warriors of ianda are sworn to protect the city and it's citizens and those within it walls from harm. Killing a citizens of ianda does nothing to protect them.

[13:13] Sherman Easterwood: 2. The Lady directly confronted a Warrior of ianda who was trying to protect the city. She had to know that such a confrontation could not end well. No one should ever directly confront a Warrior of ianda when he is doing his job of protecting ianda.

[13:16] Sherman Easterwood: We are here to hear the case of Ambassador Grun of the City of ianda on the Isle of Landa vs Lady Teal of the City of ianda on the Isle of Landa. The High Magistrate of ianda recused herself from the case yesterday and thus the Court of the Appointed Executive in ianda, as defined in ianda Public Law Section 2.7.3 among other laws has assumed responsibility for this case.

[13:17] Sherman Easterwood: This case has been very contentious since first being filed. Both parties has threaten the other. The basis of ianda Law have been questioned by both parties. The High Magistrate of ianda first determined there was no violation of law and ruled the parties should avoid each other. Ambassador Grun then filed an appeal of the decision. The appeal was heard by the highest court in ianda as defined in ianda Law Section 2.7.3 the Court of the Appointed Executive read the documents from the first trial and determined it was reasonable to believe that a violation of ianda law had occured and sent the case back to the lower court for trial A motion was filed by Ambassador Grun to the Court of the Appointed Executive requesting that the High Magistrateof the City of ianda on the Isle of Landa recuse herself from hearing his case. The Court of the Appointed Executive denied the motion.

[13:18] Sherman Easterwood: Then just yesterday the High Magistrate of the City of ianda on the isle of Landa requested she be recused from this trial based on her opinion that the Court of the city of ianda on the Isle of Landa does not have jurisdiction in this case. I granted the recusal. thus is the history of this case.

[13:19] Sherman Easterwood: If either parties feel jurisdiction is an issue in this case I will entertain motions or arguments on jurisdiction issue now before the opening arguments or testimony.

The appeal was heard by the highest court in ianda as defined in ianda Law Section 2.7.3 the Court of the Appointed Executive read the documents from the first trial and determined it was reasonable to believe that a violation of ianda law had occured and sent the case back to the lower court for trial A motion was filed by Ambassador Grun to the Court of the Appointed Executive requesting that the High Magistrateof the City of ianda on the Isle of Landa recuse herself from hearing his case. The Court of the Appointed Executive denied the motion.
[16:04] Sherman Easterwood: Then the High Magistrate of the City of ianda on the isle of Landa requested she be recused from this trial based on her opinion that the Court of the city of ianda on the Isle of Landa does not have jurisdiction in this case. I granted the recusal. Thus is the history of this case. to this point.
[16:05] Sherman Easterwood: After listening to several Ahn's of testimony it is clear what happened. The Ambassador Grun and Lady Teal had a public sparring with words. Ambassador Grun felt that the Lady Teal insulted him in many ways and thus her behavior was in violation of ianda law and worthy a collar. Lady Teal felt her words and actions violated no ianda law. Both parties agreed this court had jurisdiction in this case.
[16:05] Sherman Easterwood: For the purpose of this case the visit to Sand Sleen and the dispute if Lady Teal was a slave or not at the time occurred long ago. It is obvious the words and are actions of the Lady Teal got her into trouble as she was punished for it according to the Law of Sand Sleen. However, this occurred long ago and in this case it only shows evidence of past behavior not innocence or guilt.

I heard of no other actions taken by Lady Teal other than the insults.

It wouldn't matter on a random sim, but these people are teaching the recent roleplayers entering into BTB Gor. And it's not only the training, some cities expect their scribes to carry Gorean Campus certificates.

BtB are three grouped letters that mean very little to me anymore. It's like asking someone what they thought of a debate, and their response is "Interesting." How? Why? Good or Bad? Who knows!

'BtB' is incredibly vague, and doesn't describe quality of roleplay as a writing style, authenticity for the genre its based in, visual aesthetic for the build you can expect, or even a marker for the type of players you might meet.

It's being used as an adjective for something that has taken on a whole new meaning. Rather than say "I play in a role play genre so authentically true to its lore that it's 'by the books,'" it feels like its come to mean "In this moment I will stop acknowledging my typist and become one with my character, citing quotations without analyzing them for meaning or greater understanding."

It shouldn't matter to any reasonably intelligent roleplayer. They should be able to work out that the training is bs.

Perhaps the certificates do carry some worth though, in that you probably want to avoid roleplayers that have them and cities that require them.
