I agree that the poll was a bit daft. I was online well past my bedtime, annoyed at something (that which I explained), and it showed.

@ Linnet: agreed about the poll. As for 'none of the above' being applicable to you... well... I understand what you are saying. Thank you for saying I am smart, in any case. Sometimes I am. Sometimes I am not, clearly. ;)

@ Treat: My ulcer is fine. As for onlineisms... if you look at the thread started by James, you will be able to see that what those who argued 'for' onlineism didn't all say it was a big deal. Whether something is a vegetable or a fruit isn't a big deal either, but I don't think it is bad for people on a 'growing your own food'-forum to debate it.

My point wasn't just about onlineisms, it was about all the 'usual gorean RP stuff' that we discuss on these forums. My subjective impression is that often when something like that is brought up, and it isn't a 'new' question, a lot of people here start pissing on the thread, throwing it completely off-topic very quickly, with loads of silly replies to each other than have nothing to do with the OP. And sometimes these posters make no secret of their intent: wanting to 'end' the discussion (for whatever reason). I think that it would be a lot more respectful if they would try and 'end' a discussion by not replying, even if they if they do not like it being discussed (like, say, an onlineism).

I think it would be respectful that people who engage in nonsensical babble admit that there is nothing intellectual nor intelligent about their discussion topics. But I think those people genuinely think they are being intelligent and helpful just as much as I genuinely think I'm being helpful by pointing out that they aren't. Maybe I just have less arrogance than those respectanazis. I hope that word catches on and there's a huge Gorums grad school discussion on the scope and applicability of the word respectanazi.

I guess this topic is sort of like those people who argue that the Internet is so much more than porn and eBay. I suppose that's true but it's the fucking Internet. It seems like a waste of cake and paper to complain about there being too much porn or shopping on the Internet.

Or maybe your comment flags you as being at least as arrogant as those foolish people who genuinely think they are being intelligent and helpful. Who can say.

Well... I can. :)

Well, I allow for the possibility that I might be wrong once in a while. It's not as fun as creating kooky conspiracy theories on how I'm actually right but people are resorting to complicated methods to deny how right I am, granted. But it's not arrogant.

Quick, create a Gorums grad school topic on the perception of arrogance as it relates to Gor. I'm almost positive I can squeeze another 10,000 word thesis from you. :P

There's no better thread that wraps up nicely all the reasons I've lurked here over a year and posted only once. Thanks Alice.

DAMN NOOBS USE THE FUCKING SEARCH ENGINE STUPID, DAMN, WE"VE BEEN OVER THIS TOPIC LIKE FOUR MILLION TIMES!!!!

;) Only kidding Pugwash, joke in regards to our new rule. But seriously, what do you mean? This thread exemplifies some aspect of this forum that you find reprehensible or the responses do?
This should be interesting.

My response time is more indicative of the real issue than anything else Sacha, i'm an occasional browser who's never here enough to really take part as a thread is woven. By the time i read most threads the following has happened:

- Someone posts with good intention
- Is leapt upon by people too quick to think they entirely understood the OP's thoughts
- OP has to come back and clarify their original post
- Numerous witty one-liners, links to witty stuff, links to youtube are posted
- Thread fizzles out, or...
- A sensible discussion breaks out!

Regardless, by the time i read it there's usually 4 pages of this stuff and I get the whats-the-point-in-me-adding feeling.

But, I am one of those people who sees a TV debate or hears one on radio and always wonders why people call in to expend their hot air when they must know their contribution has zero effect on anything. I ain't much into talking shops.

I do enjoy the lurking, selective browsing of this place improves knowledge and rp, i think, and that's why I am here.

So reprehensible, no. Maybe a forum just isn't the channel for me.
