ATTN BUILDERS: 'Shadow Map' Question

Hey guys!

So you know those fancy builders prefab packs you can buy? The ones that come with the grey scaled out shadow maps for the prims so you can customize?

How do you use these?

I have GIMP, and I usually just put them on a different layer over the texture I want to use, add some transparency to it, and them do a crap ton of burning to make it look decent.

Is there a way to just...use the shadow over the top of the texture without the 'white' part? If so, how?

Thanks in advance!

Hey Feorie :)

Copy the shadow layer in as a top layer in your gimp document. Turn it's mode to "Multiply" just above the layers in the layer window. Then you can put your texture on the layers under the shadow map and it will shine through the shadows. You can of course change the opacity on the shadow map too if you don't want it as strong.

You might get nicer results with other modes, but i usualy find the multiply work best, it is a matter of trial and error. Have fun with it!
