So I'm here transiting through Dulles International Airport (yay for free wifi), and in one of the bookstores, i went to the young adult section, a section i've went to often in my teen years and which currently holds books like The Hunger Games or Divergent, and such and so. I believe Twilight falls into the same category, though I wouldn't be looking for that. In any case, this is the section that mostly holds books for teens, and i've gone to such sections when I was 14, 15 , 16 and such.
Much older now, I head into the same category just browsing from aisle to aisle, and something caught my eye. In the Young Adult section, was this. http://www.amazon.com/Misbehaving-Sea-B ... B00DA7MHUQ
Huh. Interesting. What a... rather sexy cover for teenagers. Hmm. So I did a little investigating. I cracked open the book and behold... phrases such as
'I moved up my hips so his erection slipped in'
'he ran his large length against my swollen clit'
'he pushed in deeper'
'you fit like a glove'
'fuck it felt so good'
Okaaaaay. This is for teenagers? This must be shelved in the wrong section. I turn the book around. on the back the publisher puts the website for more content 'teen
Nope. Right section. This is for teens? Seriously? I really can't imagine my 14, 15 , 16 year old self coming across this. I remember back in high school all the young adult novels talked about mature themes... sex, rape, violence, etc. but at most, all i ever came to read was a very vaguely worded description of someone having sex doggy style (not those words), and 'finishing' and then holding hands going off into the woods. That was the MOST.
Now we have such ridiculous explicit books in the young adult section that identifies as teen? and 50 shades of grey has the word 'erotic fiction' written on the back? what?
i know the age of consent in half the states in the US is 16. still, we don't allow 16 year olds to go to strip clubs, sign up to porn sites, play in Gor rp sims... etc. what is going on here O.o
i went to the clerk and showed them the book and even she agreed the books shouldn't belong there and she would leave a note for the manager. but she says these books are just shelved according to category , and that book has the young adult rating on it apparently
seriously if that book was a movie i'd be rated R, due to its explicitness, or more. rated R is 17 and up.
am i just getting more prudish? no doubt my younger teen self would have reveled in the discovery of easily purchasable book-porn. is this what getting old is like? *shakes cane * "get off my lawn and stop looking at porn books!"
if this continues i figure its a matter of time before people just shove all the Gor books in the teen section ('he takes her swiftly' pales in comparison to all this) and open up a Gor sim on the SL teen grid, if that still exists.
and if anyone asks, why yes, i did get an erection while doing my 'investigating' of the inappropriate book. thank goodness no one was in the same aisle as me.
