I had a hard time getting through captive, I kept wanting to murder the main character.

I had that problem too. And large parts were way too lengthy and repetitive for me.

However, I felt that the story itself was pretty good, though.

1) Assassins - I loved the twist and turns and Sura played a delicious slave.
2) Kajira - I loved seeing the entire capture to true slave scenario be played out.
3) Players - Who doesn't love a good carnival. Add in an underlying plot and it was a standout in the series.
Some people create their own storms, then get upset when it rains.

Assassin is much better than Marauders.

Working through the chapters, but I've been reading other books as well.

Gor is just so...meh - compared to everything else available.

But, its improved my RP. When I get to RP.

1. Tarnsmen - Not in retrospective, but key to hook readers.
2. Raiders - By far my favorite. I remember vividly the war at sea, Tarl as Bosk...
2. Nomads - Now and then I find myself remembering the silliest details, like the tospit wagers, Aphris, Harold, the Love Wars, the bigger wagon, the four warlords...

Stopped at book 9 to be honest. And I dragged.

Nomads
Assassins
Hunters

I loved the Tarl/Elizabeth storyline, the description of life with the Wagon People, in Nomads; the continuation of Tarl/Elizabeth, description of the slaver's house and slave training in Assassins; and the story of Marlanus/Tarna, and the panther girls in Hunters.

I've read about 20 of the books, and have been trying to work my way through all of them. I actually like them for the most part- I don't expect "great literature" but as a socially subversive sci fi fantasy series, it's fun to read and as a roleplay guide, I love finding details I may have missed that I can add to my characters and roleplay.

I haven't read any of the latest yet, but if anyone was curious- since Witness there's been Prize, Kur, Swordsman, and Mariners.

Yes, that could be fun, to have more details for roleplay. I am curious about Mariners but will not ask here, spoilers and all.
