Top 3 Chronicles Books

Postby HorizonNinetails » Sat Oct 04, 2014 9:58 am

Recently got an ereader and started in again on the gor series. I started reading swordsmen, but havent gotten anywhere yet.

Just wondered what three books are the best out of the series. I've read Marauders and a few others, but I'd like to read half a dozen to give me better understanding for RP.

So...gimmie your top 3 favorites out of the series (or least loathed) and why you prefer them over the rest of the series.

Even though some of the later books have good stories, the style is just too repetitive for me to call them good books. So, for me only the earlier books qualify as being okay reads.

Tarnsman
Assassin
Raiders
Nomads

I am told Marauders is a good read too.

If one is looking for books on which to base role play, it might be a good idea to decide on which Gor culture is more appealing, and the Gor books offer many ... you have "Pirate" as your caste ... you won't find much of that in Tarl's adventures ("Raiders" may have a little) but you will in the three Jason Marshall books ... many people overlook those but they are rich not only in river life and pirate activities but also in the repetitive Gorean master/slave conversations, especially the last chapter of Guardsman ... "Mariners" is told from the first person view of a seaman and would probably help ... I know they are not the overall favorites that "Tarnsman" and "Nomads" are, but they will give more insight to the role play for which you may be looking ...

Tarnsman and Priest Kings to understand the basics of what's going on, and what's going on behind the scenes, in Gor. You probably know most of these details already, but it doesn't hurt to read through it.

Other than that, I personally like Nomads and Tribesmen.

She smiled. "I have grown fond of the smell of bosk," said she. Kamchak smiled. He held his hand to the girl. "Ride with me, Aphris of Turia," said Kamchak of the Tuchuks. Image
