I will collaborate with you .. you give me and the other Gorean Sim owners 75% of the money you make selling weapons to use in our sims, that we pay for and make no financial benefit from.. thats the collaboration I want from weapons makers...

Want time to roleplay without worrying about the meter weapons and 4 m tall ballista of death?

Make your sim meterless..

Problem solved..

Sorry but you come off as wanting everything given to you without effort on your part..

You want a sim of your own, you want to have all the fun of combat, you want everyone only build the weapons that you want, you don't want to have to look at what they build to make sure it's right, and now you want them to pay you for the privilege of giving you something to play with? :o.O: :o.O: ..

I have owned a sim for 3 years of more now, during that time hundreds of people have contributed hours and hours of their time and skills in supporting the development of the environment through buildings, scripting, organising events IC and OOC, teaching and training ohers in RP techniques and combat andof course.. weapons testing.

Even money donated to the sim goes to support prize money for dance events, kaissa championships, paying DJ's for OOC parties.

I do get pissed off when I see people making enormous amounts of money and running a business based on the back off our sims and communities, especially when their "products" have an impact on the efforts of others. I know one weapons maker who specialises in GOR weapons.. he/she was telling me he had 750,000 Lindens and was complaining that the Lindens where unfair, because when he converted his lindens back to US dollars he lost out on the rate conversion. This guy is making upwards of $3,000 per month and has been for the 2 years I have known him.

I could level the same accusations at other "manufacturers" of things in SL... clothes, collars, hair products even skins.. but they dont impact my sim or require me to police what they make.

Now its unfair to single out Rhubardin, but a little more "responsiblity" has to be shown by weapons makers and they can stop this quest for making money by "pushing the boundaries" of what a weapon can do for no other reason than financial gain.

If they are purely doing this for fun.. sell your weapons at say 10L like Jaraziah did..she made a great bow, spear, sword for newbies and again many others have made swords, shields etc for free which I have put out in sims for people to use.

and finally, meterless combat... nahhhh... i was never a HTML role player, it doesnt appeal to me and to be honest, I find the way it is spoken about by some as an elitist form of Role Play off putting to be honest.

I can stimulate my brain without weapons, but on ocassions I do like the free form spontaneity of a weapons based combat environment, I may be old and grumpy at times.. but the kid in me loves to recreate and experience the "space invader" aspects of my youth.. now that dates me ;)

As for Space invader an absolute master piece even today so we agree.

Now for the rest.. what gives you the right to enforce responsibility on weapons makers even the ones that do well?

You have all the power in the relationship, all that is required of you is a single word, "no."

Simply say no to people entering your sim that they cannot bring a weapon made by a specific person and enforce the rule.

It's as easy as could be.

If you want $3,000 a month go build your own weapons shop.. I know I could use an extra 3 k a month, that's a decent little chunk of change.

God I hate the real life comparison.. so I know this is wrong to do but it's true, and I apologize in advance for it..

You are acting like a person who blames the gun makers for a murder, even if they sold it legally and were not the one to pull the trigger.

This has nothing to do with Rhu, this has everything to do with sim owners trying to tell people not on their sim what they can and cannot sell, provided it's not on the sim you own.

Your power ends at your borders..

You may work hard for hours, you may donate a lot of money, but why should that stop anyone else from doing what they want to do..

I still state that if you don't like the consequence of combat, don't like people making money off the sale of weapons, just remove the meter and don't allow the weapons..

Stop contributing to the problem then complaining about it..
I'm not happy unless you're not happy..

Of course its my sim and yes.. when I find blatant exploitation and creating weapons that are obviously made to give an advantage in combat I say No.

In 3 years I havent seen that much improvement in the peformance of weapons.. just alot of "pushing the boundaries" and selling the lastest "must have" feature with one objective.. to make money... not like the 100's of others who donate their time and effort for free... and because of their lack of responsibility in keeping withing the framework of the meters..alot of people have to spend hours "policing" their products.

Now, going back to the theme of this post.. if weapon makers want to collaborate with sim owners..give out their weapons to people for free..just like the vast majority of others in SL who contribute to GOR sims with their free time, skills and knowledge.. and then I may not get pissed off at having to spend my time policing the behaviour of weapons makers whilst they make alot of money off the backs off others.

Or go another route..

Rather then worry take a weapons maker and let them make a free bow for the sim..

That bow then becomes the ONLY bow everyone can use..

Make it texture modifiable, so that people can look their own way.

I think the part we keep not touching on is how can Sim Owners work with weapons makers?

Say you wanted to have a contest for weapons makers.. the winner will be the exclusive weapons maker of all treve..

They will be permitted to make two bows..

1) for defenders
2) for attackers

I hate to say it, people want variety, their own look, their own scripts, textures and and such.. With variety comes competition..

Anything else, like asking the weapons to kill their business so that you don't have to worry is pointless.

I actually have made sim specific weapons in the past. One for Prison moon to use as a newb sword, one for the Isbu tribe of Red savages to give out to group members, I also made clubs just to give out to other panther girl players for free just so they'd not resort to using a bow on EVERYTHING when RP wise, a swift smack upside the nogging does it better. I also give out a ton of free kit on request to sim admins for testing, and provide free commision vendors to anyone who runs an RP sim and thinks my stuff is suitable. Let's also not forget that anyting I make that 'pushes the boundaries' whether it be, something other than a bow (which are themselves just the standard because of the greed you're supposedly against), or an idea on how a weapon style might be used.

So...still not seeing where I am destroying the fabric of our community with my money grubbing profit at all costs ways here. I'm also not seeing where you've contributed to the discussions on these 'uber destructive' tools you've accused me of producing purely for my own vast fortunes.

As further demonstration I'll just ask, when was the last time you saw a guy wearing a spiked black skirt, combat boots, and tribal tats, using an Ordo Kivsungai weapon? Answer, you've likely never seen the typical pwnja using what I market, but you have seen them using what's probably popular and legal in not just your sim, but their sim as well.

So yeah, maybe a bit of an apology for lumping me in with people you have a beef with.

I'm sorry, but it has to be the Sim Admins, not the manufactures. That way, and ONLY that way, do we get the wide range of sim types out there. I'm not talking just Gor, but all SL. If you limit the makers, you de facto limit everyone. If I ever open a sim, it will be because it will have something I don't see anywhere else, and I want all possible options open to me. I'm not unsympathetic, but it just has to be that way. Sim owner don't have the right to limit other sims.

Yeah, if I had a sim I would probably want to introduce storylines like a cache of guns is discovered or a fat greasy merchant decided to train his slaves to fight with swords for shits and giggles etc.. But if the combat system and weapon makers restrict themselves to hive-mind SL Gor i.e. fancy looking bows and swords that are too heavy for a woman to lift, we won't be able to do anything like that.

I'd like to see that. I don't get pissed that someone made money off the tennis racket I just bought to use in my tennis club.

Because you're running a hobbyist outfit, doesn't mean content creators should too. We have business models that enable us to make money whilst adding to peoples ability to make their character look unique. If your model means you take considerable financial losses, maybe you should re-examine it, instead of getting butthurt that we're making a few bucks off the time we put into the creative process needed to churn out these products.

Yeah, JUST like that. Rolls eyes. But if you DID want exactly that, and you are willing to flip the 395 a month for the sim (or whatever)... Who are weapons makers to tell you you CAN'T?

I think some sim owners do work with weapons makers, least I know I do. Im often asked about this that or the other regarding a new weapon they are thinking of bringing out, as are many people, so its not an alien concept and happens probably more often than many realise.

We use the GM and that sets the weapons standards although they are only a guideline. They arent set in stone and that puts the onus back on to sim owners to either allow only weapons which comply or any weapon.

The problem with putting the onus on sim owners is many weapons become illegal, by meter standards, for a period of time for various reasons some intentional some not. Not all sim owners will know this, often many weapons testers will not know this until long after the fact, and I personally got fed up having a list of 28472846926423 weapons makers and not knowing which one ~today~ was legal or not. As it happens I am in a fortunate position where I often hear about weapons which "break" the GM specs pretty early on but its a pain in the ass banning this one today, that one tomorrow and then two days later everything is tickety boo again for another few days.

So I think the onus should be on the meter makers - let them set the specs and (if its possible and I dont know that it is as I know naff all about scripting) script the meter so only weapons complying with their standards will record damage.

As for weapons makers making money... good on them! If I was as creative and clever as they are I would have been right at the front of that queue as would, Im sure, most people *shrugs*
You can't scare me....I have children!
