Groupwide RP-bans ?

Do groupwide RP-bans make sense?

1. Absolutely. Sometimes entire groups need punished, thus RP and raidbanned from your gorean sim.

5. Never. Maintaining a "no RP-ban, no raidban, no invalids"-policy is the most mature approach a group can take.

Groupwide RP-bans ?

Postby Anarch Allegiere » Sun Oct 30, 2011 11:43 am

My personal opinion is that one of the healthiest approaches to take towards a 'RP-banning policy' is that you simply never punish entire groups for the actions of 'some' of it's members on your sim.

In my opinion the concept of RP-banning only makes sense if you assume that there are certain groups out there who are created solely for the purpose of griefing your sim and cheating. And in my years in SL Gor I've never yet before seen such groups exist... And even if they do, then exceptions on the rule can be made after very very careful consideration and patient mediation.

Raidbanning -might- make sense, if there indeed are groupleaders out there who would flat out refuse to listen to your request to tone down the amount of raiding. But I've yet to see any groups like that. And sometimes too... you might've agreed something with a groupleader, but the 'sub leaders' were not informed yet, so the next day you'll get raided after you asked to tone down the raiding a bit. But that's still nothing to get overly angry about and toss a raidban out for. If sims had the clear rule that a raid can only happen once a week from a certain group, then raid-bans should absolutely not be necessary at all.

Raid banning makes sense to me. RP banning does not. And even if that RP erupts into a combative scene between individuals, it should be allowed and not caught under the umbrella of a raid-ban. Raid-bans should simply mean that a particular sim will not accept group invasions from a particular group. It should never bar conflict as the result of one-on-one RP.

I think every sim owner gets to choose who they will and will not play with. I have no problem with role bans or combat RP bans.

Raiding bans make sense if you have to deal with constant raids from a group and your sim needs a break to roleplay.
That lack of notice to others, is easily taken care of right at the TP everyone comes in on..BIG SIGN, flashing lights too.. black and white big letters: NO RAIDING ALLOWED TILL (day/date/time). ALL RAIDS WILL BE INVALIDATED AND IGNORED.
Can you tell I've dealt with this before?

Now roleplay/combat bans, nail the individuals with bans, not the groups.
A raiding group can be a bunch of individuals, folks.
Don't be stupid and ban entire sims
Why?
1) Because if you ban an entire sim for roleplay/combat actions, you're being a prejudiced bigot. Yes, you are. You are lumping a judgement of an entire group of roleplayers in a sim, and saying all of them behave this way without any consideration for individuals.

A bigot is a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices, especially one exhibiting intolerance, and animosity toward those of differing beliefs.
The word prejudice is most often used to refer to preconceived judgments toward people or a person because of race, social class, ethnicity, age, disability, obesity, religion, sexual orientation, or other personal characteristics.

No one is on a sim 24/7, sims have roleplayers day and night and to say all of the roleplayers on a sim are that way with a ban-is the worst nearsighted childish prejudiced bigoted ugly concept i have ever seen in gor.

No one knows all the roleplayers on a sim or in Gor. NO one.
Reputation is what others know about you. Honor is what you know about yourself.

Yes to Group raidbans - No to Group roleplay bans. Raidbans make sense in certain circumstances for lots of different reasons - Group roleplay bans never make sense to me unless there was very extreme justification for it. I have yet to see one.

I went with option 1 simply because I've met some groups that are not worth two shakes of an urts tail, sure they might have a good rper or two in there, but Im not interested in digging through the trash in looking for the pizza slice. So unfortunately yea I feel there's times were banning an entire group is justfiable..case in point I have a person ban on spirit mercenarys

Eh, I'd be pissed off if a sim owner decided for me who was worth RPing with or not.

Hmmm, Dove and others here convinced me that no sim or group (other than select individual members) should get banned.

But can't change my vote, now. :hrm:

When a group habitually causes problems during raids, yes to group raid bans.

When a group habitually raids with little to no roleplay, just run through, shoot up the sim and then leave - yes to raid bans.

Oddly enough, those groups I know who are raid banned, not roleplay banned never come to our sim just for roleplay.
