Fair point Rhett, but I'm my own defense LOL, I was answering what I felt was the "spirit" of the OP, rather than the term specifically.

Draco wrote:This has been on my mind for a while, but I think there's a certain absurdity involved in the ways of people never metagaming, or always refusing to know about things unless they heard about it themselves IC in RP.

This brought to me the notion that sometimes people exaggurate in avoiding to metagame or not using information they didn't receive first-hand IC. Certain things would simply just be such great events or news that the entire society would know about it unless you have been living under a rock.

And what about NPCs? People always say we should imagine our villages being inhabited by 'hundreds / thousands' of NPCs to make the city or village seem more realistically alive as in the books, but wouldn't they gossip too? Spread news about things?

Specifically, I guess I was thinking about the absurdity of players refusing to acknowledge anything they didn't witness or learn first hand in RP out of some fear or belief that to do otherwise is some incorrect way to RP.

The OP is correct. It is absurd to those who are experienced RPers. This seems to be born out of ignorance not malice, as are so many other things. Also, I find that many people who RP in Gor are not always experienced with RP, in general. Even those who have been in Gor for several years. Gor carries its very own set of norms and procedures that you generally don't find in COLA/Midian/Perdition/medieval/period type sims or even in LARP or tabletop RP in RL.

Also, I think that this unintentional RP ignorance is bred from the very reasons that people play in Gor. Typically, the first reason is not actually for RP. It's more along the lines of dominance/submission or sexual fantasy enforced in an institutional way. RP is usually secondary. Whereas, in a sim like Perdition, for instance, the primary reason for playing there is RP itself for many of the players.
