Thinking of a reason to return a character to Gor

So, you have been an Assassin. You've done your Assassin thing. You've killed, trained, etc.

What about becoming a hired sword to a slaver house and boinking all of the hot sluts?

How about a storyline of getting involved with Agents of the Priest-Kings or Kurii and becoming an elite operative for the underlying war between the alien factions?

How about you roleplay exactly what you're feeling, walk through the gates of the Sardar, and come out with the golden control net in your head and buggy red mechanical eyes like Parp (was that his name?) in the third book?

How about pulling a Pa-Kur and making a vast Horde just to run around and prove that you can do better than Warriors, conquering, pillaging, raping, plundering?

How about going undercover as any other caste and doing that caste work for a time. Like a Tarn Racer, Tarn Breeder, so on and so forth. Only to reveal your true identity at a tarn race and slaughter your enemy rival with your racing tarn's steel-shod talons?

There are plenty of things that can be done. You just have to decide if you want to do something huge, something small, something consistent, something short-lived, etc. And after you make that decision, then you start thinking of the things that fit in those categories. It isn't so much as what, specifically, you feel up to doing. You should think of what aspects do you want to enjoy and feel. Adventure, action, consistency, erotica, so on and so forth.

Dyce...
You just described at least 3 elements of storylines of the characters that roleplay in my home! :D

And I tell ye... people frown upon the ideas... act like it is far-fetched and what not... x_X

That was my first thought.

In fact the house of sirnah is looking for guards. Long storyline, very plotty, very interessting.

that the second. And both options are VERY BTB.

There will always be options and some very good ones have been outlined on this board. But the other point is (also made, but it IS the catalyst)

DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO.

Not what people are urging you to do, not because others want it, not even to keep others happy. IF you will not be happy doing it, then as soon as it becomes a "chore" you will loose interest. At least that is my experience in the past.

And if you need a break from Gor, then take it, enjoy it. My experience also tells me, we all need those at times...just remember when it comes to Gor, in the immortal words of the Eagles....

you can check out any time you like....but you can never leave  ;)

But I just couldn't think of a way to revive Sabina again. She's not happy there anymore - and unless I can think of something amazing, she's perfectly happy frolicking as an elf in Everwind too :P

I even thought of an awesome character for a she-urt.. but I'm just not ready, you know?

Give it time. I know the feeling, but you'll also know when it's right. Maybe he's happy where he is for now.

I know exactly what you mean. I see so many people in Everwind that are either in Gor or have been in Gor, I feel like staying in Gor just to see if it changes whilst they're out of Gor. Heh, now look what you made me do! I confused myself.

But thanks for the comments from everyone, I know it is purely down to me and what I want, but Gor is such a major part of my SL that I am finding it hard to find a niche in Everwind. I mean, how the hell does a Vampire end up in the same sim as a Dragon? And there's French people there too!!! (just kidding!!)

I hear ya both. I have been away from it for a while and keep getting little hunger pains for it, but just not enough to throw myself back in. Gorean rp is really the only thing I was interested in, even after trying a few alternatives from time to time, it just felt like I was only getting one candy rather than the full bag of candy. Or, maybe gor rp is just homely to me <shrugs>. However, gorean rp became mundane to me, same old same old. Maybe I have poor patience, in fact I know I do, but I wanted action and play, yet wasn't keen on the GE or too much pew pew. One thing that does put me off, is that if i return, I will be roaming for a new HS again, have to go through the mundane rest at the inn, served a drink and some fodder, possibly some brief chit chat with the locals, before they go off into their quiet corners with each other. :shifty:

Do what you want to do ... i agree, thats always the best.

I just arrived back at Gor after a break of around 3 months, am a hired sword of a merchant now who is rarely online and i am not really good in combat  but i have fun and i can do what i want. I was at the end with Conall as the usual Red and it bored and annoyed me to death, as it was everyday the same shit at the gate.

The Idea of being a guard of a slaver of merchant isnt bad, gives you time to adapt again and to get ideas. Don't let you force into any storyline or anything you do not want to do ... do your own thing. We dont have to be involved constantly into something great.

Still laid up with a cold today  so, out of sheer boredom, thinking about SL Gor more than usual. Just my 2 copper but if you have to rack your brain to find a reason to go back then it isn't worth it.

Like Conall I have also been gone from SL Gor for months but I have absolutely no desire to return. In the 4+ years I spent in it I went through periods where I got burnt out and took much needed extended breaks. I have found that the best way to go back and make it worthwhile is just to wait until your heart tells you it's the right time. For now, just be patient. You will wake up one day and think "today's the day" and the reason for your return will unfold on it's own, no premeditation required. You'll just show up and it will feel right. Until then continue frolicking as an Elf, wherever you are, or go focus on your RL for a while.

There's an old proverb from the Chinese Philosopher Lao-Tzu in which he talks about a dog chasing it's tail. He says that the dog who chases its tail never catches it, but if he goes ahead down the path he will look over his shoulder to find it has been following him all along.

Just a simple thought as to why one may return to Gor:

To make a positive difference. If the OOC sniping and bickering and cries of 'invalid' bore you, or worse -- piss you off -- then be that person that refrains and sets the positive example. A tireless, thankless job and not so much fun, I know. But it beats the tiresome trend of people caving into the status quo.

I left Gor and in a manner of speaking SL nearly a year ago.. for very similar reasons as those the people in this thread and forum have spoken about/have described but I've also made a decision myself to return and do what needs to be done -- both for my own enjoyment but to hopefully make a positive difference in the caste that I have always belonged to and devoted a lot of my time and energy to in the past.

I wish you luck and happiness in whatever path you chose.

I am desperately trying to think of a sound reason for Judas to return to Gor. I have other characters remaining in Gor at the moment, so it isn't a case of having left Gor all bitter and twisted.

Judas has always been Black Caste, is Black Caste and will always be Black Caste, but the idea of him returning to Gor, to be faced with endless calls of 'invalid' and OOC bickering and sniping, just doesn't flick my switch. So, apart from returning and training people (you all said you'd never subscribe to a training regime, be it Black Caste, Red Caste or whatever) what is he supposed to do? What direction can he now take, and still remain Black Caste?

I just can't bring myself to resurrecting him, after nearly 6 weeks dead. This isn't a discussion about permadeath either, I gave him 6 weeks out after losing his life in a game of chance. To me, that's good enough for me and it should be good enough for you guys.

Oh what to do!!! Suggestions would be welcome. He needs something with some 'bite' in it.

If you really want to bring him back and have trouble coming up with a reason...well, for a black caste, there's only one obvious one that comes to mind:

He left a job unfinished.

When you're active and taking on new work things like this can slip by you. When you've been taken out of action and have time to let your life catch up with you, the world has a way of letting you know when you missed a step way back when. Maybe somewhere in his past a mark managed to survive and he's only just now finding out about it. Maybe there's some witness out there in the world arranging for something counter to his interests. Something along those lines. I don't know the details of the caste or the character enough to be more specific, but that's where I'd be looking for ideas if it were my character.

"He left a job unfinished." What a great way to have an open RP... and if someone needs a "hidden base" to work out of, I have an idea that I won't share here.. then it won't be hidden! If desired, IM me in-world... Scott123 Gaffer.
