Constantly Having to Rebake? - A Tip that Worked

Postby Kaitlin » Fri Mar 16, 2012 7:32 pm

This tip may be common knowledge but I'll share anyway just in case someone else is having this issue.

For the last 6 months or more I've been having to rebake constantly. It was really driving me up the wall. I had heard it all as far as root cause:

Graphics Card (New laptop with smoking graphics card - check)

Wireless Connection (Plugged it in the old fashion way - check)

Clean install of the viewer (check, check and triple check considering the number of viewers I've gone through recently before settling on exodus)

Now what? Still rebaking like crazy.

A friend passed along a helpful tip that seems to have solved this issue for me so I thought I would pass it on if anyone else was having a similar issue.

Show Develop Menu (Located in Advanced Menu)
Make sure Full Res Textures is enabled - Develop/Rending/Full Res Textures

Haven't been blurry or needed to rebake other than the usual lag issues since I checked the option.
:woohoo:

Good tip (for those with this problem).

Here is another: snapshot. Enlarge picture to fit your screen. No more blurry you. :)

Thanks for the tip Kaitlin...will try that myself later...

To add to Glaucon's ever so helpful advice. I found logging into Skyrim solved the rebake issue ;) ...though I have also found, I can't scan around my avatar so well. :shifty: And I think I would be classed GE, SHE duel weilds

I've had the rebake/blurry issue a lot...went to click this and saw

(dangerous)

out beside this option.

What does that even mean? Are bears going to jump out of my computer and eat me???

Yes.

On a more serious note, it probably indicates that it may make your viewer unstable. Maybe. Sometimes. That's usually what "dangerous" means - either it makes your viewer unstable or it has the potential to expose you to a security breach. I highly doubt it's the latter.

Which viewer are you in? I've had success with this in both exodus and singularity but Phoenix/Firestorm have been completely useless to me for months in terms of performance/FPS so I didn't try this on either of them. In Ar with this activated I'm still managing about 15-20 FPS on Ultra so it doesn't seem to be compromising my performance.

Latest Firestorm build. And I got brave and tried it and- no bears!

And I didn't crash either, which was a bit of a surprise since I'm on a crappy old computer with an integrated crappy old graphics card. Of couse it was just me and Quin doing a private scene at our house, so not a lot of scripting/laggy stuff around, so it may curl up and die screaming in Midian- we'll see...but so far so good.

it has been found that sometimes the issue is an older hair base -- the Phoenix/FireStorm people were actually giving out hair bases for a while! So if rebaking and toggling your group tag does not help, try putting on a newer hair base.
