Crashing with the latest Linden viewers? Read on

Postby Elle Couerblanc » Mon Aug 29, 2011 4:49 pm

So you went out bought yourself a brand new spakin' computer with an uber sweet nvidia card (400 for sure and maybe the 500) with the next gen openGL features and boy are you excited! You get home, get it all set up and load the latest version of viewer 2 or even viewer 3 on your new computer and log in to see the magic happen. But instead of seeing such lovely things as real time shadows, mesh, Depth of field you get instead:

Screen turns black

Warning pop up on the lower right hand corner of the primary monitor stating my display drivers stopped responding and have been recovered successfully

Second Life Dies before you very eyes. So if this sounds like you - take a look at the following jiras and vote, vote, vote:

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SH-2276 (SL 2.7.x - 3.0.1 (tested) crashes NVIDIA GTX 460 if Basic Shaders are enabled (possibly if Google SketchUp was previously run on the machine since power-up))

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SH-2089 ([PUBLIC] SL 2.7.3.232686 crashes NVIDIA GTX 460 if Basic Shaders is enabled)

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-26804 (Viewer 3.0 Crashes upon log in with OpenGL Error)

I do for photos - you get the latest buzz and whistles graphically with the Lab viewers. Plus its not the viewer its the coding. I have the samne issue with Kirsten's now and once firestorm gets up to speed with the lab and Kirsten's it will happen their.

Basically they didn't design the viewe apparently with the latest openGL features. I speculate its something with the new mesh coding.

I do too and yeah my beloved Nvidia 460 crashes on desktop. Besides, Firestorm doesnt seem so fast in comparison with the latest SL official viewer, the official ones always run faster and smoother for me.

Eh, Windows 7 64bit, 4 gb of ram, 4 cpu cores, Nvidia 460 with 1 gb of memory. I should be having no performance issues hardware wise.

We have almost the same specs but i have 6 GB of Ram. Firestorm is based on 2.5 coding but once they update past 2.7.1 I see the same issue happening *sigh*.

Dunno, earlier viewer was working wonderfully, i dont roleplay or stay online much so i dont really care for all the fancy stuff the new custom viewers come out with, but Holy Jesus LL, i remember crashing like mad back in 2006, now it is 2011, and i crash like a madman again, when are you gonna, dunno, FIX THE DAMN THING? You fix something, you break something else, wtf?

Even Windows stopped crashing to desktop, why cant your friggin client work after so many years in development without falling apart once in a while?

I get the same issue with Firestorm (the black screen thing)

but I know i need more memory too...I am mean to my pc, running sl and several windows, music and often have skype and yahoo running as well.

So I will crash on Pheonix, esp if i get bad video lag (gor hub crashes me everytime, unless i shut down Mozilla before going there).

Need my darhling to put the extra memory in :poke:
