Uhm. Yes. 'Fucking attack already'. I decided to save myself that guy's frustration. Deinstall. Money wasted, but problem solved.

Been playing this for a while now, through my wide-array of contacts I'm lucky to have access to the closed beta.

It's a fun casual strategy game. Hyped to the extremes again by Blizzard like usual.

For the Warcraft geeks out there:

Blizzard announced the new WoW expansion yesterday.

I used to play the shit out of Warcraft 1 and 2, so going back to revisit those old days is just epic for me. Not to mention that they're applying flexi-raiding across the board to all difficulty levels (except the new 20m mythic raiding), so enjoying all aspects of the game without being tied to a raidshedule should be possible now.

I have nothing nice to say about Mythic raids. It's actually going to kill the game for me. GG Blizzard.
This isn't fucking Survivor. We aren't a tribe.

If I won't put up with an in-character owner trying to control my OOC life, what makes you think I'll put up with you trying to do that?

I have been playing 'State of Decay' for a bit. I have mixed feelings about it. I do think it is a good game (awesome, in a way. like actually playing walking dead, not just the shooting, but also the tactical stuff), but I am a little confused as to how to do many things (including basic stuff like fighting). Also, the constant time-pressure makes me nervous.

Here's an interesting look at naval battles, from about 6 minutes in.

Rome - Epic Fail - II update:

I installed it again, after I heard that the patches had delivered mayor improvements. Played it for a bit. I felt it was alright, now. Sorta fun. Not great, and way way too easy, even on very hard with a harder-to-play faction.

But then... I checked for mods. And I installed one called Divide et Impere. And lo behold! Suddenly it is the sort of game that I had been hoping for on release. Epic battles (bit slow, with large units that take a while to get places, but I don't mind some realism), with the time-scale adjusted so your generals don't die as soon as they have gotten a bit more experienced. The game is no longer hopelessly unbalanced (siege engines scaled back to non-apache squadron levels, for example) and the AI seems to do a far better job, now. The game can even be 'hard', at times, with this mod. The changed unit names to latin are a bit confusing (mine is very rusty *cough*), but other than that... if you own this game, and want a more serious challenge, try it with this mod (4 parts, can get it through steam).

This mod's a definite improvement! The AI is finally awake as the couple of campaigns I started, ended in premature disaster.

During the past 5 years, there were about 4 games of interest. And now 2014 is exploding with prospects! On the MMO front, there's ESO, EQ Next and many new titles from the East. The one's I'm keeping an eye on, are Black Desert and Project Black Sheep(appears to sport ADHD satisfying combat). Kingdom Under Fire 2 could yet redeem itself from the awful voice-overs in the beta-gameplay. It's an MMO with a mix of RTS style combat, as you guide your squads through the battlefield.

Prime Bbcode Spoiler Show Prime Bbcode Spoiler:
The Black Desert trailer was posted earlier, so here's some PvP from the beta, from about 5 minutes in:

The big comeback this year, are for the space sims! 8-)

Star Citizen is the obvious one, with a crowd-sourced budget of $38 Million and growing. The official trailers are old, so I'll post a recent clip of a space hangar and the ships you can own. I'm hoping the gameplay will justify it as more than just a geeky space-garage:

I won't go into the history of Elite and how it introduced me to gaming addiction. And with a modest, crowdsourced fund of £2 million, I'm not expecting Elite: Dangerous to reach a phase of relationship-withering immersion. But, we'll see.

Speaking of modest funds, Limit Theory has raised about $200,000 for a space sandbox sim. It's only single-player for now, but the hints are there for a multiplayer expansion. I expect we'll see more independent developers using 'Procedural Content Generation' in the future, to create huge areas, cities, planets, galaxies of this scope. Teams of dedicated artists and modelers are just too expensive.

Banished is shaping up nicely for a modest, little city-builder.

You don't build this town to generate wealth, in Banished, you're harvesting food, clothing, firewood and surviving harsh winters - or watch your population freeze and starve to death.

In its current release it feels like a game in final-beta stages, I've nearly rage-uninstalled it over AI issues. It needs polish, which I expect will come from community mods, but it's already one of the most involving single-player games I've installed in recent years.
