This mod's a definite improvement! The AI is finally awake as the couple of campaigns I started, ended in premature disaster.
During the past 5 years, there were about 4 games of interest. And now 2014 is exploding with prospects! On the MMO front, there's ESO, EQ Next and many new titles from the East. The one's I'm keeping an eye on, are Black Desert and Project Black Sheep(appears to sport ADHD satisfying combat). Kingdom Under Fire 2 could yet redeem itself from the awful voice-overs in the beta-gameplay. It's an MMO with a mix of RTS style combat, as you guide your squads through the battlefield.
The big comeback this year, are for the space sims!
Star Citizen is the obvious one, with a crowd-sourced budget of $38 Million and growing. The official trailers are old, so I'll post a recent clip of a space hangar and the ships you can own. I'm hoping the gameplay will justify it as more than just a geeky space-garage:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bs9H6uUwEM
I won't go into the history of Elite
and how it introduced me to gaming addiction. And with a modest, crowdsourced fund of £2 million, I'm not expecting Elite: Dangerous to reach a phase of relationship-withering immersion. But, we'll see.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VE8B4KptyVI
Speaking of modest funds, Limit Theory has raised about $200,000 for a space sandbox sim. It's only single-player for now, but the hints are there for a multiplayer expansion. I expect we'll see more independent developers using 'Procedural Content Generation' in the future, to create huge areas, cities, planets, galaxies of this scope. Teams of dedicated artists and modelers are just too expensive.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3KDeQOEwzE
