The hotel connections may indeed be your biggest issue.

SL sucks up far more data than just surfing or email checking.
And if the company pays for your data allowance at the hotel, they may not find SL on the work laptop but in your data download log provided by the hotel. To be truly independent I would investigate carrying your own portable wireless modem-router.

If the company uses any kind of asset administration software they can pull a software report to see whats loaded on there.

I believe we can exclude the possibility that ist a company machine, as they would not buy on their own..

DO any of the notebooks run SL, complete SL not just the text?

ALso open for any other suggestions....Thanks!

Sounds oh so familiar. :D
SL while traveling can be a challenge.

I've schlepped two laptops around painfully. I decided quickly to leave the 17" gaming monster at home even with a laptop case on wheels (I recommend). A few lightweight options (4-5 lbs) that handle SL easily with Nvidia video cards are the following:
1) Sager 13.3" Gaming Config
2) MSI 1492 or GE40 with both 14"
3) Alienware 14

You can also manage reasonably well with the Acer Aspire Ultrabooks although the performance won't be as good.

The #1 Issue is indeed going to be the speed of your hotel connection. It is going to suck to the point that SL is hopeless. Dren and a few others probably got tired of hearing me complaining.
The solution was to pick hotels wisely initially and then to get a dedicated modem. Now that I've switched cell carriers I use tethering and I've upped my data plan to compensate because SL is data hog. Even if your husband wasn't playing on SL this is a good idea for a more secure connection. Hotel connections are usually wide open and good targets for hackers.

If it's used solely for socialising/roleplay, then a tablet with a liberal data plan or tethering could well be an option. And you could bluetooth a keyboard whilst travelling, and continue to make use of the tablet when at home.

Lumiya on Andriod is a graphical client:

Later this year we'll see the tablet/smartphone market heating up yet again. Nvidia claims their new Tegra K1 GPU can outperform the Xbox 360 and PS3. We'll see how well this translate to real-devices out this autumn.

The problem with this comparison is that most of these won't run SL unless all you intend to do is park on a bench for every scene and even then I suspect your lap will be on fire from the heat of it trying to process the graphics using the standard viewers.

@Tantus
Thanks for posting the video. I need to try Lumiya again. Awhile back when I tried it I certainly couldn't have done the boogie or gone shopping.
