I read the book it was based on. Enjoyed that. Watched most of the TV show. For me, it just lacked the understated nature of the books. The characters were too over-the-top, for me. Had I not read the book, I think I'd have liked this one more.

Tantus wrote:The Night Manager, Yet another British short-series which was well received. It is a very British spy drama, which may or may not work globally.

I could have added this to my list. Very well-made series. Hugh Laurie is great in it.[/quote]

Tantus wrote:Banshee, Easily one of the best shows in recent years. It's like, if you took an absurdly violent and sexual graphic novel and turned it into a TV show, you have Banshee..

Ah, had heard of it. But forgotten to check it out. Gonna.

Tantus wrote:The Expanse, A moderately paced sci-fi show which improves through the episodes towards a nice finale where things finally start coming together. S02 begins in a couple of months and I would recommend it.

Seen it. The story is pretty good. Not the usual procedural stuff. In my opinion, the acting is okay, but not great and production values aren't HBO-level, but I might check out season two as well.

Tantus wrote:Colony: It's like a modern day V. Aliens have occupied the Earth and a small resistance is forming. The persistent theme of the show is, would you sacrifice your family for the good fight, or become a collaborator and see them protected. The show has potential going into S02 which begins early next year.

Tried a bit of it. Looked fun, sorta. Well made and all, but the cliche's piled on quickly. Story matters to me. I bailed on it.

Tantus wrote:Marvel, Netflix are really going to town with their Marvel Superhero series of shows. Daredevil is the better of them, S02 introduces the Punisher along with one of the most violent prison scenes I've seen in recent years. And this show is rated (15)! But, Netflix needs to pick up the pace with real, challenging super-villains. Luke Cage against street thugs isn't interesting. Jessica Jones is not something I would admit to watching, but yeah... it's not a bad show. There are a host of other titles in the works and these characters will form up for a series of The Defenders next year.

I find it funny that you say 'guilty pleasure' about Jessica Jones. I know some guys that pretty much had the same reaction. Apparently, having a female lead makes it to much of a chick-thing for guys to admit to liking it. Especially because there is some 'rape-related' character-background drama involved, perhaps.

I actually quite liked it. Good story. One of the most Interesting villains I have seen. The best of the ones you mentioned, I feel. Daredevil season one was good, but it lost me during the second season. I gave Luke Cage a try as well. The writers obviously thought the way to go was to just to rehash every Harlem chilche they could come up with. The punisher? That guy looks too much like too many avatars with mesh heads I see in Second Life. :teehee:

I don't know all of those. Haven't seen any of them, except Penny Dreadful (good first season, but didn't work for me at the start of season 2 and, from what I heard, it didn't get better after that).

There clearly is. But sure... who doesn't love David Attenborough's accent? Does it have penguins? I love penguins. They so funny.

Gave Banshee a shot. True, it is kinda porny. Sex-porn and violence-porn. But hey. Still pretty enjoyable. Thanks for the tip.

I enjoyed "Glitch". Australian 6-parter about some people who come back from the dead one night.
I call my vagina "New Yorker cartoon" because it's dry and a handful of people have laughed at it.

Glitch I never heard of. Sounds like I should give it a try.

The Crown... also comes recommended. Somehow, the topic just isn't fascinating to me, because Lisa the Second of her Name just never really interested me much (to quote the Beatles: "Her Majesty is a pretty nice girl, but she doesn't have a lot to say."), but I heard it is good enough to overcome that.

Black Sails... watched some of the first season. Was on the fence. Something to keep in reserve, I guess. Same with Vikings. And the Last Kingdom, as well. All this period combat and heroics is fun and all, but... I don't know.

There is just a lot that is pretty well made, these days.

Ooh, I snagged the first season of Black Sails at the Wal-Mart Black Friday "let's clear out the movie/tv shelves" sale- it looked good! I've got Game of Thrones set to watch (read all the books and watched a few of the shows but neeeeed to sit down and watch ALL of the episodes). Westworld and Banshee are on the list now, too. I'm so behind on so many shows- don't watch much TV so try to binge watch when I can.
